Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
